Research facilities such as Arctic research stations or large Antarctic bases are prime examples of polar architecture in
extreme environments. The article is devoted to identifying the typology of research facilities located in the Arctic and Antarctic.
The article is also intended to integrate the study of the architecture of polar research facilities into the scientific environment. At
present, such buildings rarely become the subject of scientific articles, and in practice, a large number of Russian Arctic research
facilities are not reconstructed or updated. Based on the study of the architectural features of 25 objects, a typology was compiled,
including research stations, complexes and centers.
