The History of Development of Hospices Located within the Boundaries of Cities

Abstract

This article discusses the history of the first hospices, which originally served as a shelter for pilgrims and were located within the boundaries of settlements and along the roads along the main pilgrimage routes. We examine the transformation of the main function of hospices over the centuries, as well as current trends in the architecture of hospices within the boundaries of cities. The basic forms of their architectural organization and general planning features are analyzed. The state of russian hospice movement is considered and the necessity of introduction of hospice care into the RF cities structure and their standardization is revealed.
