Ancient Russian Cross Framed by Letters in the Light Of The Hypothesis About Spatial Word Formation

Further developing the author's hypothesis concerning the emergence in antiquity of a specific system for the spatial arrangement of numbers and their corresponding letters, whereby words could be associated with spatial coordinates and assume particular geometric configurations, the article examines a unique Old Russian artifact: an embossed cross on the crowning element of a folding icon by the master Lukian, surrounded by four letters. Drawing on the results of his previous research, the author supplements the cross diagram with twenty-four letters corresponding to the relevant numerical values and identifies meaningful words formed through various combinations of these letters. This reveals the meanings of the constituent parts of the cross and the spatial loci marked by it. The article also addresses the formation of three-dimensional space around the two-dimensional cross, with reference to certain astronomical knowledge and archaic models of the universe.
