In the early post-revolutionary years, Ivanovo (formerly known as Ivanovo-Voznesensk) became one of the first sites for the implementation of new ideas in the industrial architecture of the young Soviet state. While design experiments were active in the textile industry in 1926–1928, during the first five-year plan, the construction of enterprises in other sectors (mechanical engineering, food production, and construction materials) was carried out in accordance with the all-Union architectural methods. From this point onward, the formation of pre-factory areas be-came of great importance. The largest industrial construction projects in the USSR were an experiment and an example of new principles for solving these spaces in many cities across the country. In this article, the authors explore the evolution of the practice of architectural organization of industrial enterprises' junction zones and the changing approaches to their creation, using the example of Ivanovo in the 1920s and 1960s, during the development of scientifically based models for their formation.
