Abstract

UV-curing technology (LED-curing option) allows to form a ready solid protective and decorative varnish coating up to 50-70 microns thick within 5-30 s, and to implement a ready multi-layer coating (primer + finishing varnish layer) within ~ up to 2-3 min.
The technology of coating a wood or wood-composite surface (plywood, fiberboard, chipboard) assumes that the surface is first coated with a UV-primer (for medium-hard porous wood species, a two-layer priming is recommended, with a smaller thickness of the second layer, application of the composition ~ 15 g / m2). Curing of one layer is 10-15 s, the process can be carried out on the production line. The process is completed by applying a finishing UV varnish (application of the composition 8-10 g /m2), curing 5-7 s. The entire process of forming a solid protective and decorative layer is ~ 40 s, after which the material can be stacked and packed, or cut to order profiles. The properties of the coating are determined by the formulations of the UV-primer and UV-varnish compositions.
The UV-primer formulation provides for the use of an oligomer mixture: the introduction of tetrafunctional polyether acrylate in a 1:1 ratio to epoxy acrylic oligomer; the UV-varnish formulation provides for the use of only epoxy acrylic oligomer. Photoinitiating mixtures of diphenyl (2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl) phosphine oxide with 2-hydroxy-2-methylpropiophenone and diphenyl (2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl) phosphine oxide with hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone were used, depending on the coating layer. Active diluent mixtures included hydroxyethyl methacrylate with tripropylene glycol diacrylate (for the UV- primer) and 1,6-hexanediol diacrylate (for the UV-varnish).
The technology of two-layer UV-curable coating «UV-primer + UV- varnish» allows you to treat the surface of plywood (possible options: fiberboard / chipboard) to give it protective and decorative properties. The material is completely ready for stacking, packaging or the necessary cutting (in the manufacture of interior parts / furniture elements) immediately after the application and curing of the finishing lacquer layer (within 1-2 minutes). This is a significant saving of time and production costs.
