1917–1950s: Development of the Urban Silhouette of Socialist Petrograd–Leningrad in the Traditions of Imperial St. Petersburg

The article presents the features of the development of the urban silhouette of socialist Petrograd-Leningrad in 1917–1950, in accordance with the ideas, requirements, and decrees from the imperial times, starting with Peter I, but not implemented
until the beginning of the 20th century. It was Leningrad architects who managed to implement these long-standing ideas in the
20th century, aligning historical and new buildings under a "single cornice" and creating a system of high-rise dominants that
were clearly verified in terms of placement, silhouettes, and vertical dimensions. This allowed to form a city-wide silhouette of
the skyline of the city on the Neva, which has become universally recognized on a global scale.
