The Planning Structure of Sochi-Matsesta Resort of the Pre-War Reconstruction Period - Outstanding Monument of Soviet Urban Planning (to the Subject of Protection of the Historical Settlement)

Abstract

The article considers the prerequisites, the content of the process and the town-planning significance of the creation of the spatial planning structure of the Sochi-Matsesta district during the pre-war reconstruction of the All-Union resort: the construction of a highway (Stalinsky, now Kurortny, Avenue), straightened the section of the Novorossiysk-Sukhumi road between the historical core of the city and Matsesta and largely determined the scale and nature of the development of territories on its mountainous and seaside sides; the construction of a picturesque pedestrian path-alley running along the slope along the seashore between the strip of beaches and the highway; the construction of the New-Old Matsesta highway and the Agura-Akhun road. It is shown that the basis of the spatial organization of the resort was based on the principle of a harmonious combination of functional zoning of the territory with maximum adaptation of its planning structure to the natural conditions of the area.
