Abstract
The return of the traditional city to the practice of urban planning is a worldwide movement that began in the 1980s and continues today. In some countries, this movement has been called the New Urbanism. Its main features are the presence of a traditional hierarchy in thelayout and silhouette of the city, traditional streets with public functions on the ground floors, the priority of pedestrians, ecology and natural materials. Russian Russian architecture traces the formation of the ideas of this circle in modern Russian architecture, and for the first time analyzes the contribution of Russian architects of the neoclassical trend to the revival of the traditional city. The connections of the Russian neoclassical school with the Russian architectural tradition, including paper architecture, are considered. The assessment of the special approach of Russian authors compared with Western new urbanists is given.
