Abstract

The architectural environment of many historical industrial enterpris-es in Central Russia, as a rule, does not possess compositional and artistic integrity. The reason for this is, among other things, the long–term (both in pre-revolutionary and post-revolutionary times) formation of the planning and spatial composition of their architectural complexes on utilitarian principles. This feature of their historical and architectural heritage objectively dictates the need to improve the planning and spatial structure of the complexes, an inevitable component of which is new construction within their boundaries. Naturally, this process should be based on the principle of preserving the valuable qualities of historical buildings and the historical architectural environment. The article suggests approaches to improving the architectural and spatial organization of these complexes, methods and techniques for introducing new buildings into the existing buildings of historical industrial enterprises.
