Method for Calculating Daylight in Room with Grating Smart Window

Abstract
The method is described for calculating daylight in rooms with grating smart windows based on an anisotropic model of diffuse solar radiation. Methods for calculating the geometric parameters of a grating window filter and the temporal characteristics of the light transmission of a smart window with such a filter are presented. A new formula has been obtained for calculating horizontal illuminance indoors at a grating smart window for further use in calculating the daylight illuminance coefficient and other metrics of the quality of daylighting. The developed method was verified using numerical modeling of year-round daylight metrics in the conditions of Orenburg for a chromogenic grating smart window, as well as, for comparison, a conventional smart window with a continuous chromogenic layer and a conventional window without any coatings. The calculation results showed the advantages of a grating smart window compared to a conventional smart window in the colored and bleached states of chromogenic material and over a conventional (real-life) window without a coating.
