"Harmony of Architectural Complexes with the Natural Environment": the Post-War Planning Project of Sochi-Matsesta Resort and Its Implementation in the Modern Cultural Landscape (on the subject of protection of the historical settlement)

Abstract

This article examines the origins of the first post-war planning project for the Sochi-Matsesta resort, which developed the core principles of the "Planning Scheme for the Sochi-Matsesta Resort Region" approved in 1936 by the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee of the USSR. It provides a general overview of the new project, created under the supervision of I.K. Zhilko and approved in 1948, demonstrating its significance in the history of Sochi's spatial development and the formation of the historical component of the cultural landscape of the city of Sochi, which now enjoys the protected status of a historic settlement.
