The Influence of Transport Systems on the Evolution of Cities

Abstract
The history of the transport system development clearly demonstrates how technological advancements have changed the principles of settlement. Understanding this history helps us to comprehend the impact of transportation on the growth of cities and settlements, the economy, culture, and the environment. Given that the transport system plays a crucial role in the development of society, ensuring the functioning of cities and facilitating communication between different regions, it is essential to anticipate its impact on settlement patterns and the environment. The article examines the interdependence of settlement and transport structures in the Moscow region, using the example of the capital and small historical cities that, like Moscow, originated on the banks of rivers and had developed trade connections, but developed in a completely different way.
