Unknown Plan of Tambov in 1780 (Archival Discoveries)

Abstract

he article compares two urban planning projects – the confirmed Tambov plan of 1781, executed by the Commission of Buildings and the previously unknown Tambov plan, executed in 1780 by Yuri Soymonov. The planning ideas of each of them are considered, compositional and artistic qualities, methods of project submission are analyzed. Separately, the reaction of the plans to the existing situation in reality and the reflection of different design approaches in the presented drawings are noted. The author makes assumptions about the reasons for the choice made in favor of one of the projects, and draws reasonable conclusions about the process of urban planning design of the late XVIII century. Previously unknown archival documents are being introduced into scientific circulation for the first time.
