Formation of the Moscow Region Transport Structure in Connection with the Development of the Settlement System at Different Time Stages

Abstract

The article deals with the retrospective transformation of transport and settlement structures in the territory of the present-day Moscow region in the preindustrial, industrial and post-industrial periods of society development. The influence of technical progress on the change of transport means and ways of movement, as well as forms of settlement, types of construction and rates of urbanization is traced. Much attention is paid to the hypertrophied growth of Moscow, both numerical and territorial, which is the main reason for th e growth of transportation problems in the region.
