Factory Towns as a Historical and Cultural Phenomenon of the Chelyabinsk Region

Abstract

The phenomenon of the Ural factory towns as a symbol of the Chelyabinsk region's industrial cultural heritage is justified by the historical development of the territories in the 18th and 19th centuries in the context of the industrial revolution in the Russian Empire. The article analyzes the features of their urban planning structure and architectural design, using settlements as examples. It also examines modern approaches to preserving historical heritage through the creation of historical and cultural reference plans, the establishment of protected areas, and the development of master plans for territorial development. The article highlights the current challenges in preserving industrial monuments and the prospects for developing factory towns as a regional brand and tourist potential in the Chelyabinsk region.
