Abstract
During the flooding of a significant part of the city of Kalyazin, the bell tower of the main cathedral, St. Nicholas Cathedral, was not dismantled and remained standing in the center of the Volga River. The cathedral itself was dismantled, but it was built in the late 17th century and has been repeatedly "updated" throughout its existence, resulting in the loss of its late medieval architectural forms. The article, based on numerous sources and chronologically close analogues, attempts to recreate the original appearance of the church, which was lost in 1939, and to identify its author, who continued the traditions established by the Kashin-Kalyazin construction corporation in the early 17th century. The article includes analytical material and a graphic reconstruction of the church from 1692–1693.
