Main Article Content
Abstract
The article examines the construction history and architectural features of wooden churches from the 17th to early 20th centuries in the Prilutsky Parish in Lower Onega (present-day Onega District, Arkhangelsk Oblast). The history of the Prilutsky Parish churches, reconstructed from written documents and pictorial sources, reveals the rich typological diversity of wooden churches and complements the picture of the existence of the local ensembles in the 17th and 18th centuries. It also demonstrates the complex development of wooden architecture in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Therefore, the study of the churches of the Prilutsky Parish in Lower Onega largely reflects key events in the centuries-long history of wooden architecture in the Russian North.
