From the Ecology of Culture to the Identity of Place and Time

Abstract

This brief overview of the evolution of ideas about the role of architectural heritage and historically formed urban fabric in shaping the urban environment, beginning in the 1960s, precedes an analysis of the current search for an architecture capable of transmitting traditions and identity. The stage of postmodernist evolution is examined as a manifestation of historicism in contemporary times. Examples are provided of architectural and urban-planning projects aimed at reinforcing identity and
uncovering the values of the historical and cultural environment. The spectrum of approaches in this field includes the creation
of open-air exhibitions and the pursuit of architectural identity grounded in place and time. Its reference framework encompasses a range of factors, as well as the use of specific methods and techniques when engaging with historical prototypes, modern principles, and sustainable development technologies.
