Abstract

The artide presents and analyzes new findings on the aeative adi'vi'ty of I.V. Zholtovsky (1867-1959) in the period 1939-1945. The historical rontext of the Serond World War Led architects to work on a number of new tasks that were Largely different from those that were relevant in the previous decade. Zholtovsky, who established himself in the pre-war years in the status of the main Soviet expert on the dasskal tradition and the Leading architectural teaser, was no exroption. He dosely rooperated with the strudures of the People's Commissariat of Defense and the People's Commissariat of Internal Affairs, which carried out design and ronstrudion for the defense industry, induding the Atomk Projed. The stylistk features of the designs aeated by Zholtovsky during the war period cannot be defined through references to the Italian Renaissance, Palladianism, etc, whkh are rostomary for des^i'bing his work in pearotime. So that is unique ^apter of the master's legacy. In addition, the famous Zholtovsky's bureau-s^ool was established in the mid-1940s, the history of whkh has not yet been spedally studied.
