The Reconstruction of Post-War Stalingrad and Preservation of Monuments of Military History in Modern Volgograd-City

Abstract

The article presents the main provisions of the report made at the meeting of the General Meeting of the RAASN-2023 “Preservation of the architectural and urban heritage of Russia. Vision of the future". The author reveals issues related to the preservation of monuments of the military history of Russia, namely the cultural and historical heritage of the Battle of Stalingrad.

The first part of the article is devoted to the peculiarities of the formation of the architecture of Stalingrad and its post-war general plan, taking into account the protection of military history heritage sites, many of which have become dominants in the urban environment. The second part is devoted to the problems and successful practice of adapting military history monuments in a modern city on the example of projects of members of the RAASN for the preservation and use of objects of the cultural and historical heritage of Stalingrad-Volgograd.
