Abstract

The article addresses the topic of regional identity in the context of forming the architectural and spatial environment of cities serving as administrative centers of the subjects of the Russian Federation. The concept of regional identity is discussed, and the appropriateness of using the term "capital" for regional administrative centers is substantiated. The article examines the applicability of semiotic approaches to studying the architectural and spatial urban environment that reflects regional identity. It explores the application of a theoretical model of the semantic framework of a regional capital city to this analysis and identifies the features and patterns in constructing the city's semantic framework at different taxonomic spatial levels.
