Abstract
he article, which is dedicated to the anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences and St. Petersburg State University, assesses the history of architectural planning and the development of material heritage from the point of view of the experience of organizing scientific and technological breakthroughs, as well as the socio-cultural, spiritual component of a single scientific and educational space, the creation of which began by the will of Emperor Peter I.The unity of the idea of the founder of St. Petersburg was fully reflected in the real space, not only in architecture and urban planning, but in general in the semantic foundations of the spatial organization of Imperial Russia, whose legacy we can and must use in today's transformation of our country, which again needs technological breakthrough in the context of a global confrontation with the "old centers of power".
