The Formation of the System of Ensembles of Squares and the Urban Code of the Historical Development of Turin

Abstract
The article contains the results of a study of the process of forming the system of squares of Turin from 1565, when the city received the status of the capital of the Savoy Kingdom, to the present state on the territory of the historical core, conducted against the background of a historical and genetic analysis of the addition of different parts and zones in accordance with
the stages of evolution (Roman camp, fortress-fortification, "commando zone", burgs). The obtained data allowed to present a theoretical genetic model of the city and trace the genetic code of development; reveal principles of the location of squares, palaces, cathedrals, their spatial relationships and a variety of characteristics and parameters of squares, features of internal zoning; discover forms of organic reconstruction of spontaneously formed urban planning from the structure of a medieval city to representative ensembles of squares of the capital's appearance.
