Formation of the Concept of a Residential Microdistrict in the Soviet Urban Planning of the 1930s

Abstract
The article highlights the early stage of the formation of the concept of microdistrict in Soviet urban planning and states that already in the 1930s the basic foundations of this element of urban planning were laid. Based on the generalization of the available fragmentary data from archival sources and publications in the professional press, the process of the formation of this concept in the 1930s, its origins and interpretations are reconstructed. The article analyzes the scientific and practical developments of design trusts and research institutes, focused on the methodology of structuring urban space and its construction from standardized modular units. Also, the object of consideration is the "socialist" quarter, the principles of organization of which are analyzed from the point of view of the influence on the formation of the ideology of the Soviet microdistrict.
