ontemporary Architecture in Russia: Thirty Years of Experience

Abstract

The thirty-year period of the recent history of Russian architecture is gradually acquiring the features of stages. Radical changes in Russia in the 90s of the 20th century with the advent of private property and the transition to individual design were marked by the emergence of a whole range of trends in architectural creativity. The predominant approach was an appeal to historical styles on the principles of postmodernism. In the 2000s, a new situation is being created, due to a number of new factors and tasks. The leading trends are those that appeared situationally in the early 1990s and are based on the principles of innovative styles: high-tech, minimalism, neo-modernism, attempts to actualize avant-garde movements. In the 2010s, they embody the socio-economic order and are filled with engineering and technological innovations due to the appeal to the strategy of sustainable development. The convention of dividing into stages is explained by the diversity of architectural searches, parallel socio-economic processes, and engineering and technical progress.
